SURF-FUR Challenges Locals To Plunge The Pacific
Company’s “Brave The Elements Tour” hits the 101 Hwy in search of “Plungers” to benefit Ocean Futures Society

Leucadia, California: Surf-fur, A Southern California based company specializing in “the best darn warming products for watersports”, will take to the road this Holiday Season to spread the good word about its products while raising money and awareness for Ocean Futures Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating people throughout the world to act responsibly for the protection of our water planet.

The “Brave the Elements Tour” will start a 14-city expedition up the “101” with an inaugural kick off event at The Black Box in Del Mar on October 25, 2014 at 7AM. The “tour” will then continue to stops at places like Come Together Yoga and Music Festival Imperial Beach, Glenn’s Aquarius in Monterray, Ocean Adventures and Freedive in Lompac, and Cannon Beach Surf Shop in Cannon Beach, Oregon before concluding at Thunder Reef Divers in Vancouver, WA, just as the Holiday season comes to an end.

Taking a cue from the wildly popular ALS “Ice Bucket” Challenge, the Tour will allow visitors and patrons of shops along the way to plunge into the icy cold Pacific with just your bathing suits and a limited edition WOTTERMAN beenie to benefit the cause. Any plunger will automatically become an honorary “WOTTERMAN.” The spirit of a WOTTERMAN is a salty, adventurous soul who is driven by the passion of their watersport. We are looking for new members of our tribe to Brave the Elements for a great cause. Surf-fur will be collecting monetary donations (as well as blanket donations for local homeless shelters) and offering special discounts on Surf-fur products and partner brands for any plunger who donates the day of the plunge. In addition to raising awareness of Surf Fur’s patented wind-proof, waterproof and breathable technology, the Tour is hoping to raise over $10,000 for Ocean Futures Society’s projects and programs around the world to preserve the health of our ocean planet for generations to come. Through OFS’s environmental education programs and multimedia campaigns, OFS inspires action by reinforcing Jean-Michel Cousteau’s concept, ‘Protect the ocean and you protect yourself.’

Surf Fur, the pre-eminent line of cold water products, keeps water lovers of all kinds warm in wet conditions by allowing them to quickly change from cold wet clothes to dry comfortable ones without ever removing the parka or making a scene. With a soft lining, an internal collar and attached hood, Surf Fur really keeps the cold and wind out, while keeping the wearer snug in its’ soft lining. And because the parka uses a system of snaps instead of a zipper as a closure, the long hem drops below the knees, enabling divers, surfers, swimmers and fishermen to quickly change from clothes to wetsuit and back again without any wardrobe malfunctions.

“We really wanted to do something fun for a good cause, while demonstrating how Surf-fur can keep people warm and dry in situations where they’re usually forced to be cold and wet for long periods of time,” said Cynthia Issel, Surf-fur’s CEO, who decided to “put the show on the road” this year after watching over-joyed customers discover the product during brief stops at a couple of partner dive shops during last year’s holiday season.

“Obviously, everything we do is focused on getting people warm while enjoying water activities, so we thought it would be a great way to help out Ocean Futures Society and to show people how well our products work by asking them to “Brave The Elements” wearing Surf Fur after an icy swim. We can also spread Ocean Futures Society’s message which is to heighten the awareness of our changing oceans in hopes of engaging more people to care about ocean conservation and to live a more sustainable lifestyle to better protect our water planet for future generations.”

The Challenge will have participants don a Surf-fur WOTTERMAN beanie, given to donators the day of the plunge, and their bathing suits and head out for an icy swim in the cold Pacific at the early dawn hours. Afterwards, we will celebrate the exhilaration on the beach wearing our Surf-furs noshing on warming goodies donated from (add local shop name here) a local coffee shop, GoodOnYa Bars and Guayaki Organic Yerba Mate Tea.

“It should be a lot of fun for a great cause,” said Issel, who plans to make it a family affair by hitting the road with her husband, Zenon, two children, and a mountain of great Surf Fur products. The team also plans to bring products from other great companies like Jolyn Swimwear made especially for waterwomen, GoodOnYa Bars which are 100% raw and organic superfood bars and Guayaki Organic Yerba Mate, “which can only be described as the best tea on the planet! “ Surf-fur is also partnering with (local surf/dive store) to offer folks the chance to enhance their water experiences with knowledge on ways to be as comfortable as possible in extreme hydro conditions.

In addition to the “Brave The Elements” Challenge, the Surf Fur “WOTTERMEN” will be demonstrating the best ways to utilize Surf Fur in a number of cold water/weather situations. Issel, who started the company in her garage in 2007, also plans to preview new products, as well as survey surf, dive, boating and fishing aficionados about when, where and why they need to stay warm and dry around the water.

“We basically ask to hear everything about their experience with the product, and the stories never cease to amaze me,” Issel, and avid surfer, said. “People who love water have found some really inventive ways to use Surf-Fur. We have had people from all across the globe write in to say how much they love the “Fur.” Everyone from SCUBA and free divers to an Oregon couple who use them to go boating on cold days, surfers in Boston who walk through snow to paddle out, and even guy in South Carolina who slips out of his at the beach all winter to take long swims in the ocean!”

At the end of the day, Issel hopes the tour raises a lot of money for Ocean Futures Society, awareness for Surf Fur and gain great experiences for her family and staff. Most of all, she’s looking forward to meeting other people who love water.
