Our hearts are with all of you as we experience this global shift. We have been faced with the opportunity to walk slowly, breathe, open up our senses and focus on health and quality time with loved ones (out of the water). No one is alone in this and we are determined to continue to spread the warmth during this time and long after this has passed. We understand the impact that this is having with each and every person on earth and believe that one day we will be able to tell remarkable stories of triumph and tenderness.

Our favorite Polar Bears, the Coney Island Polar Bear club, is at it again this Winter. They laughed at the forecast for a snow-filled, below-zero Saturday morning and went for a short swim with not much more than some booties and swim suit. Of course they had their Surf-furs for protection.
Two of our styles were recently reviewed by the “Lone Swimmer”, an Irish open water swimmer who writes a popular swim blog. The name arose because of the Open Water Rule Number One, Never Swim Alone. However, most of his swimming was alone. He began to share information and knowledge to every level of swimmer on his…
On a planet where everything is connected, the health of our oceans is intimately linked to social and economic well-being. About 8 million tons of plastic enters the ocean every year (Jambeck et al., 2015). Part of this accumulates in 5 areas where currents converge: the gyres. At least 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic…
Every three to five years, driven by a reversal in the trade winds, an El Niño, a huge bulge of warm water under a blanket of tropical storms, hits the western most extension of South America, burying the cool Humboldt Current and dropping heavy rains on Peru and Ecuador, often around Christmas–hence the name El…
by Richie Balta The Pacific Coast Championship was held in Central California at Cambria beach. Eighty competitive divers from along the whole Coast of California showed up to compete. It was by far the biggest PCC in the history of this meet. Ryan Moore and Scott Blumer called me two months ago asking if I…
Riley Elliott a.k.a the Shark Man is at the other end of the ‘get some better work stories’ spectrum and Surf-fur is very excited to announce a new partnership with Riley as the newest member of our elite tribe of Wottermen. As a surfer, spear-fisherman, free-diver and scuba diver, this classic Kiwi bloke has always been…

When we first saw a handmade Grain wooden surfboard on Instagram, we were mesmerized. The craftsmanship and smooth wood finish was just like buttah. A few months later, we weirdly enough found ourselves only miles from the farm where all the magic happens. We decided to drop in and bug them and they couldn’t have…
Now that we got your attention with this gross photo, read the article about Surfer’s Ear by our guest blogger, Dr. David Baglow. However, don’t be fooled by the title. Surfer’s Ear should be called Watermen’s Ear because even divers and swimmers can get it! Anyone who’s ears are exposed to cold water consistently and over…
From Hoover Dam into Lake Mohave By Gary Mortimer It was mid-February, the weather had been mild and the decision had been made to paddle on the Colorado River from the Hoover Dam and on through Lake Mohave. After researching the options of getting to the river right below the dam, we hired an outfitter from Boulder City, NV to…
Most people think that being indoors or covered by a damp towel is enough to keep you warm and prepared at a swim meet or waterpolo match, but this is exactly the opposite way to prepare for the race of your life!
